Public picks poodle for Obama
Over seven weeks, more than 42,000 people cast their vote in an American Kennel Club poll to offer up an answer to a very important question: What kind of dog should Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama get for his family? The Obamas promised their two daughters that they'd get a dog after the election—win or lose.
In a tight race for top dog the poodle won by a hair, just beating out the soft-coated wheaten terrier. The miniature schnauzer, bichon frise, and Chinese crested were other top candidates. If the Obamas decide on the poodle—a hypoallergenic breed that's a great fit with one of their daughter's allergies—the AKC will assist the Obama family in responsibly acquiring a puppy or an adult rescue dog.
