Americans weigh in with name suggestions for the Obamas' future dog.

It’s probably safe to say Maverick (think John McCain) won’t be the Obama family’s first choice for a dog name. But Americans have plenty of name suggestions for the puppy that President-elect Barack Obama promised his daughters Malia and Sasha after his electoral victory.

Among the most popular name suggestions, according to an MSN-Zogby poll:

Dog

Liberty
Lincoln

Other, less popular suggestions:

Abrahound Lincoln

Economy
Momentum

As for the breed, 25 percent of respondents said the Obamas should get a mutt, and 15 percent suggested a golden retreiver. Forty-five percent weren’t sure.
