If you feel cartoon daggers hitting you in the back of your head at work when you walk by your grumpiest employees, you may
not be hallucinating. Nearly half of actively disengaged employees—those who are acting out their unhappiness and undermining
what engaged co-workers accomplish—want their boss fired, according to a survey published in the Gallup Management Journal. It's a different story for neutral employees (those putting time, but not energy or passion, into their work) and engaged
employees (those working with passion, driving innovation, and moving the practice forward)—23 percent and 6 percent of those
workers, respectively, wanted their boss dismissed. Researchers who plumbed deeper found that respondents who felt cared for
by someone at the company weren't as likely to want to fire the head honcho. So, when was the last time you had a staff appreciation
day?
