Bathrooms for dogs open in D.C. area airports

VETERINARY ECONOMICS

Dogs traveling through Dulles and Reagan National airports are free to lift a leg before boarding a flight thanks to the airports’ new “pet relief areas.” While Reagan National’s four pet pit stops are located outside the airport, Dulles has two rest areas inside the concourses. Dulles’ indoor facilities for dogs feature a fenced-in area, complete with artificial grass, a fake fire hydrant, and bags for owners to pick up after their pets. Dulles has three outdoor zones with real grass as well.

These pet relief areas are open to all dogs accompanying passengers, but were created to comply with federal mandates requiring designated bathrooms for service animals.
