Owning cats isn't cheap. From chronic illnesses to unexpected accidents, veterinary bills can add up, particularly for those with clumsy pets. But are certain breeds costlier for their owners? New data shows that they are.

Pet insurance company Trupanion has released statistics based on pet insurance claims submitted by Trupanion policyholders since Aug. 12, 2000. Here are the five breeds that required the highest cost of care—based on the total amount spent by pet owners—and what percentage of the claims were due to accidents, as compared to illnesses:

Siamese: $74,639

Bengal: $73,409

Himalayan: $69,449

Maine Coon: $63,683

Ragdoll: $40,442
