Two record-setting dogs pass away
Oh, if these dogs could talk, the stories they'd tell. Chanel, a wire-haired dachshund and the world's oldest dog, and Gibson, a Great Dane and the world's tallest dog, both passed away this summer. Through the years, as Chanel's cataracts worsened and the cold began to affect her, she took after her fashionable namesake, donning tinted goggles and warm sweaters. Guinness World Records officials presented Chanel with a "world's oldest dog" certificate at a posh birthday party in May. Chanel died of natural causes Aug. 28 at her home in Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.
Gibson, a Great Dane, was born in Grass Valley, Calif. At his peak size, he stood just over 42 inches tall and measured 7 feet, 1 inch when standing on his hind legs. Gibson showed compassion for people, gaining certifications in therapy dog, wheelchair assistance, and special needs work. Gibson was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in April and died Aug. 7.
