It's important to involve your whole staff in recognizing pets with problem behaviors, according to Dr. Melissa Bain, DACVB, at UC Davis' Companion Animal Behavior Program. Here's why:
Training leads to involvement. If your staff is educated on the signs to watch for and the questions to ask pet owners, they'll have more investment in helping clients with their pets' behavior problems.
Staff can ease client concerns. Pet owners may feel guilty about their pets' behavior and may be more comfortable when talking to team members rather than doctors. Once concerns are out in the open, the staff can partner with the veterinarian through the duration of the pet's care.
