Q&A: Is hydrotherapy feasible for a smaller practice?
Hydrotherapy, more specifically underwater treadmills, are a favorite therapy of CVC educator Matt Brunke, DVM, CCRP, CVPP, CVA. Why? Because it’s a truly multifactorial tool, he says.
“It allows us to work on obese patients, dogs and cats with osteoarthritis or neurological problems,” Dr. Brunke says.
Even better, the underwater treadmill has clear wellness uses as a growth center in even smaller practices. The treadmill can be used to exercise dogs that are being boarded, which can add an additional stream of revenue, especially with younger dogs that need a good amount of exercise, he says. At his practice, he’s even built a relationship with local law enforcement and military branches, to utilize the treadmill with their K-9 officers to keep them in peak working condition.
